Every Fourth of July weekend we go to the Cherry Creek Arts Festival here in Denver. An entire neighborhood's worth of streets are blocked off and filled with artists displaying and selling their work. Of course, in the four years we've lived here I've never been able to look at the artists' booths since we spend the entire time on the kids' street. The kids' street is filled with giant tents sponsored by the Children's Museum, the zoo, etc. Each tent is filled with tables and volunteers are available to help kids create anywhere from 4-6 different art projects in each tent. It's rare that we manage more than 6 projects total - the kids get so involved in their work that it's hard to convince them to move on to the next project. In addition to working on the communal mural seen in the layout above, the kids made yarn dolls. Of course, Eli had to do his own thing (with some tying assistance from mom and dad), hence the world's very first Darth Vader yarn doll, complete with red light saber:

The colors are definitely gorgeous! And I must have channeled my inner Vivian yesterday because I restocked my Thickers supply in a big way. :)

i visited CCAF three times this year - it was great! i went with a friend and her son the last day and was allowed to make art in the kid's section! we never miss the CCAF. miss you!
