One Layer Back

Today, I have a layout up on the Pebbles blog. Interestingly enough, this layout is one layer back from the big story. Eli had one of the leading roles in his 5th grade musical in May, but I haven't scrapped that yet as I can't remember where I stashed the program from the performance. I know it will turn up, but, in the meantime, I did create a layout about Sadie's involvement in helping Eli to prepare for his big night as well as her involvement in helping to congratulate him. This story is one layer back from the main story, but still something we will want to remember:

Sometimes I forget to think about all of the layers, so I'm actually kind of glad that I don't know where the program is...for now...

A Wright Brother

My kids' school has an annual second grade tradition: The Night of the Notables. The second graders read biographies and choose someone they find interesting. Then, they become that person, learning as much as they can about him or her. At the Night of the Notables, the second graders dress up as their person. Parents and siblings get to walk around and quiz the second graders, trying to figure out who they are by asking questions like, "When were you born?" and "Why are you famous?" and other such things. 

One of Sadie's friends from her Brownie troop was totally impressed that I figured out that she was Jeannette Rankin. Apparently I was the only person all night who got it right. I credit my year teaching for the Close Up Foundation in DC back in the mid-90s. I always stopped in the Capitol at the Jeannette Rankin statue and told my students her story. 

Sadie was a little more obvious (layout based on today's sketch on the October Afternoon blog), but extremely cute:

We all learned a lot we didn't know about the Wright brothers during this process! :)

 

Summertime

This week is summertime week on the Pebbles blog and I have a layout featured there today: 

It really is summertime here - we've had temperatures hovering around 100 all week! My kids are on their second week of camps - Sadie did writing camp last week and is in photography camp this week and Eli did an international economics camp last week at our local (and amazing!) bank for kids and is at overnight camp now. I'm really jealous of their summers, especially since they have cooking camp and Hogwarts camp coming up!

 

Travel Girl Winner!

I usually do a random drawing, but decided to do something a little more fun this time around. My five-year-old nephew just finished kindergarten. When I saw him a few weeks ago he was giving me the rundown of all of the fun things that his class was going to be doing at the end of the school year. Of course, I have no idea what he was going to be doing on the penultimate day of school, as it took everything in my power to focus on not giggling uncontrollably upon hearing such a big word come out of the mouth of such a little (and cute!) kid, thereby rendering it impossible for me to continue to listen. So...in honor of my nephew, Reggie, I have picked the penultimate poster - the person whose comment was next to last when it was time for me to go to bed last night.

October Afternoon Travel Girl Blog Hop

I mixed some clean and graphic (patterned paper) with older vintage (Sew Fun Banners and Miscellany) with newer vintage (Miscellany) to create this fun little card:

If you aren't familiar with October Afternoon's Sew Fun Banners, they are a unique and versatile product!
